Need details with for watching netflix on TV

No matter where I look in to the netflix website there are no detailed instructions for what items one really needs to watch Netflix on their TV.   I need specific instructions.   I do not know a lot about computers and related lingo.  I do not know what broadband is for instance?  I have DSL with a modem.  I do not have any other options so I have no knowledge of alternative internet services.  My TV is not located near my computer either.  It is downstairs.  Will I need 200 feet of some kind of cord?  I do not want to purchase a Netflix ready device if I find out I will not be able to use it.  I would like step by step instructions with specific details related to the exact accessories, and hook-ups that will be required.  There is a phone jack by my TV.
